The west African country’s capital, Abuja, has hosted a high-end fashion show of Muslimwear. Afia R Fitriati has the story.
A fashion show for modest women took place last month in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. MID fashion show presented collections from labels such as Aab, Friniggi Sportswear and Vlisco.
‘The MID fashion show, a ladies-only event, is in its third season,’ event organiser Adetona Abdulhameed, CEO of MID Kollections, told Aquila Style. ‘The recently concluded third edition of the event was a landmark achievement for us as both foreign and domestic brands were showcased on the runway.’
Adetona further added that the event is geared towards promoting the Islamic fashion concept and introducing the current fashion trends to Nigerian Muslims. In a country home to around 50 million Muslims, Adetona’s company holds the exclusive retailing rights of several familiar Islamic brands including the UK’s Islamic Design House, the US’s Al Farah, India’s My Batua and Lebanon’s Bokitta. Despite considerable market potential, Adetona said that the Muslim fashion market in the African republic is still in its infancy.
Over the past three editions, attendees at the MID fashion show have included top female Muslim personalities of the country, including the wife of Nigeria’s vice president as well as other socialites. This year’s event took place at the Abuja International Convention Centre on April 14.
