Mix Your Prints

At first, it may seem a bit intimidating to mix your prints up but when done right, the result can be unique and creative. Look for subtle prints and pair it with another item of contrasting colour. Similarly, hijabis can wear a printed top with a patterned hijab in a contrasting shade while non-hijabis can opt to layer a printed top with a patterned jacket.

Brighten Your Outfit

Add a pop of colour, even to an already-bright outfit, by wearing an additional bright item that complements. It could be a hijab, belt, shawl or scarf.

Long Cardigan

Though wearing a maxi cardigan can be unconventional (in the tropical outdoors) and can almost look cloak-like if they are a little too heavy, layering with a light and airy one can cover your butt area, elongate your silhouette and make you appear taller. To further avoid looking like you’re wearing a cloak, avoid black ones.

Tweed It

If you are living in cooler climes, we envy you! Because tweed jackets are an epitome of class, making you look instantly lady-like and proper. Keep the rest of your outfit simple, such as a cream hijab, white blouse and matching bottoms. Oh well, we might still give this look a try here in balmy Southeast Asia!

Subdued Colour Blocking

Colour blocking is often associated with bright colours but should that not suit your taste, opt for subdued jewel tones instead. Colour blocking in jewel tones creates a more mature look that can be appropriate for the office as well. Play it up with hijab accessories in contrasting tones if you are feeling more playful.

Printed Blazers

Perk up any casual or basic outfit with an interesting printed blazer. Keep the rest of your outfit basic and accessorise simply. If you wear a hijab, choose one without prints as the focus should be on your blazer.

Lace and Chiffon

Although I’m sure we all wish we could wear an Elie Saab creation on a daily basis, it doesn’t exactly suit most of our budgets. But what you can do is to translate this romantic look into an outfit more fitting of your budget by wearing a chiffon skirt with a lace top to create the same pretty and classy effect.

Super Jacket

Black jackets are often the item of choice for power outfits but white ones are becoming increasingly popular with the fashion set and can easily make you look like you own the boardroom while looking fashionable. Keep your outfit sleek with well-cut trousers and a structured bag, but do avoid a white hijab so as not to make your white jacket be mistaken for a structured hoodie.

Enhance and Embellish

Embellishments may be unconventional but they can lend a classy and luxurious feel. They best complement clean silhouettes and solid colours. Keep your outfit and hijab design simple to allow the emphasis to remain on the embellishments.

Go Green

This cool and fresh shade is perfect for the upcoming spring and flattering for all skin tones. Plus, it looks great when combined with other colours. Wear it with interesting prints like above for a pretty look but avoid matching greens with browns so as not to remind others of trees.

Stripey Maxi

A gorgeous striped maxi dress is a summer staple and the right one can bring you from the beach to a nice dinner easily. Also, vertical stripes can elongate your body and make you appear taller. Wear it layered with a loose cardigan and sandals for a laid back and casual look or style it with a cute blazer and strappy heels for formal occasions.
