Planning to get your photographs professionally taken? We tell you how to make the best out of it.
Here are 10 tips to help you get the best results:
- Aim for makeup that makes your complexion appear flawless. Make sure your makeup base goes beyond your jaw line, temples and hairline. Use studio-standard makeup if possible — they reflect light much better than standard makeup. Before the shoot, blot away grease and touch up on your makeup lightly
- Pay attention to your eyebrows – fill in sparse areas with an eyebrow pencil or powder. Well-shaped eyebrows frame the face wonderfully
- Wear clothes that complement your skin colour. Avoid schizophrenic motifs and busy patterns. Make sure your undies won’t show through the fabric under the flash
- Face the flash directly to minimise the appearance of skin imperfections
- It is not a mugshot so do not stand squarely in front of the camera. Turn your body away from the camera and twist at your waist to face the lens
- Keep your back straight
- Relax your shoulders and keep your arms slightly away from your torso to make your frame appear slimmer
- Extend your neck and tilt your head down just a little bit. This can make your eyes appear bigger and prevent the double chin from creeping into the picture
- Try to get the photographer to take shots from a slightly higher angle rather than from your eye level. Bringing your face closer to the camera’s focus, your body can appear smaller. Avoid shots taken from a position lower than shoulder height or you might end up looking like a giant
- Relax and enjoy the experience
