How to Tell Him It’s Over

You’ve had your good times together and now, you have reached the end of the road. Here are some tips on how you can part on good terms.

• Pick a quiet public place
• Be honest. Tell him exactly why you are bailing out
• Be crystal clear about the breakup. Make sure he understands that this is a clean break and not some cooling-off period
• Do not go around telling the whole world your breakup plan before you end it with him. The relationship is between the two of you so it is only polite that he is the first to know
• Do it in person. Do not break up via a third party, through the phone or via social media tools
• Keep the drama to the minimum and do not make yourself look like the victim
• It is a breakup, not a meeting to discuss wedding plans. So keep it short and sweet. The faster you two walk away from it, the sooner you can start healing
• If he reacts strongly – shouting or sobbing – let him have his say and walk away. Do not try to defend yourself or counter his accusations
