Singaporeans are invited to immerse themselves in Arab culture while helping underprivileged communities.
A visually impaired pianist protégé and a renowned violist are set to perform at a charity gala dinner organised by a non-profit organisation, Arab Network @ Singapore (AN@S).
“The main objective of AN@S Leyaali el-Khayr 2013 charity gala dinner is to help raise funds and promote awareness for AN@S’ specially chosen beneficiaries for the night, which are: Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (LBKM – PMBM Scholarship Fund Board), the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) and Autism Resource Centre (ARC),” explained the organising committee of the gala dinner.
They added that these three organisations were chosen as the beneficiaries of the event because “these organisations have very little exposure in Singapore yet the work they do is so impactful to the lives of the disadvantaged.”
The charity event, set to take place at Raffles Town Club on November 22, will welcome Singapore’s Speaker of Parliament Mdm Halimah Yacob as guest of honour. As a whole, the organisers aim to make the event “a night where we can relive the Arab heritage of our forefathers and share the positive and beautiful elements of the Arab culture with our fellow Singaporeans”.
In addition to performances from Lebanese violist Maher Salamé and talented Singaporean visually-impaired pianist Adelyn Koh, the event will also feature Arab dances as well as other artistic expressions. The night will be capped off with an auction of exquisite Middle Eastern artefacts, the proceeds of which will go to the beneficiaries of the evening.
“The Arabs are well-known for their generosity and graciousness to guests. Therefore, by combining the gala dinner with the charity element, we believe that the AN@S Leyaali el-Khayr 2013 will be an effective embodiment of AN@S’ aims and objectives,” said the organisers.
AN@S was formed in 2010 and has been an active supporter of a wide variety of charity initiatives in Singapore. To learn more about Leyaali el-Khayr or to confirm your attendance, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
