Diversify with Accessories

Professing her love for accessorising, YazTheSpaz shares her tips to help us get the most out of our wardrobes.

How many of us have that at least one outfit that’s been sitting in our closet for years simply because it looks so boring and plain?

It’s a well-known fact that by accessorising your wardrobe, you can easily turn any outfit from drab to fab!

There are various ways of accessorising an outfit. You may have a painfully plain outfit that you need to play up, or an outfit so busy with prints that looks like it’s been dipped in a rainbow of dye, which of course you’d want to play down. Whichever point you’re starting at, you can use accessories to make that outfit a hit with your friends and family!

One of the easiest ways to accessorise an outfit is by adding a necklace. Let’s say you’re wearing a beautiful flowery summer dress. Since it’s so busy already, all you might need is a simple ring, plain shoes and a thin chain necklace with a cute pendant. On the other hand, perhaps you have a ‘Plain Jane’ top? You can easily add a gorgeous busy layered chain necklace, a big ring and even some funky coloured shoes to liven it up!

Another great accessory piece is a ring. I am in love with big, glamorous rings! I love to wear those intense rings when I wear solid-colour tops because the ring can stand out that much more. Some of the many rings I have include checkered print, huge crystal flower, an array of colourful ones and even a dome-shaped/pearly one! You can see how I use some of them in the gallery above.

Let’s move on to brooches. All I can say is that they’re fabulous not only for jackets and tops, but also for hijabs! Especially when I go to weddings or events, I like to add a nice bow-shaped or crystal brooch to my hijab by simply pinning it onto the side where my hijab folds meet. In many fashion shoots I’ve done, I’ve added brooches to make my hijab look that much more elegant.

Other great accessories that can be worn by all women are belts, headbands, bracelets, scarves, purses and even hats. If you think you’ve never seen a hijabi girl wearing a headband, well, think again! It’s a great way to make your solid-coloured hijabs pop with a sense of dimension.

Belts are also very in this season. I love the thicker ones that hide my baby ‘love handles’– because you know, a lot of us get those when we wear tighter fitted pants with big, loose, flowing tops!

Why else do you think people wear accessories? Another clear reason is so they don’t have to spend too much money on ‘real’ jewellery. There’ve been countless times when I’ve worn real gold rings and bracelets and then, once I got to the beach, I took them off, put them in my pocket and they ended up getting lost. But that’s the extreme case, of course. Accessories are a woman’s best friend because they are cute, affordable and they can go a long way to boost any outfit you plan to wear!
