We never knew knitwear could be so funky until we saw these, designed by Vivian Graf. You heard it here first.
When it comes to wearing knitwear, there’s no longer any reason to fear looking like your granny. Today’s modern designers boast plenty of creative juices and magical touches to turn what used to be a dated-looking fashion item into a hip and even edgy fashion line.
Vivian Graf is one such designer. On her blog, she shares stories and images of her fashion passion. Even the knit-picky will find new, refreshing ideas here. Vivian is an alumna of Parsons The New School for Design in New York City and has designed knitwear for a few major brands such as Lala Berlin, a German fashion brand. She fell in love with knitwear after interning with a knit professor from Parsons who taught her how the simple act of working on domestic knitting machines can unleash a whole new creative world of knit design.
Vivian’s knitwear designs can best be described with three words: pure, feminine and modern. ‘I like to create a combination between an inspiration coming from a really modern urban place like architecture and nature on the other hand. I want the women who wear my knitwear to feel stylish and comfortable at the same time and I feel that this is only achievable if you create a symbiosis between the two: nature and urban life,’ she explains.
Last February, Vivian’s knitted pleats dress design was one of the winners in a shoe-inspired design contest held by Parsons School, Bergdorf Goodman and Christian Louboutin. When you can wear it with Louboutins, you know for sure that you won’t look like Granny.
Vivian plans to launch her own fashion label in January 2013. Visit her blog at tricoville.com.
