Wattletree Asia brings Australian resortwear to Southeast Asia

The newest label now available at the Aquila Shop brings a selection of fun and vibrant printed kaftans. By Shea Rasol.

Seeing the huge demand for a middle ground between high-end and casual labels across Southeast Asia, Nikki Martin launched Wattletree Asia last year. The brand combines selected designs from Australian designers who have not yet ventured into the region.

“Among other luxury boutiques and department stores, Camilla has recently been spotted in the front window of Bergdorf Goodman in New York, and ZIMMERMANN recently opened an East Hamptons store, while Coco Ribbon has huge success in London. Knowing all of this, I thought to myself, we are missing out not having these brands here [in Singapore]!” said Nikki.

Although relatively new, Wattletree has a way of “connecting” with Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei – thanks to its easily distinguishable style and bright tropical colours. Her resortwear pieces are widely popular in the US. A-list stars like Beyonce, Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson and even Oprah have been spotted on their vacations in pieces from labels under Wattletree’s wings.

The luxury bohemian style Wattletree provides is especially suited for the tropical climate of Southeast Asia – look at the number of beaches we have on this side of the globe. Whether you want to dress up for cocktail functions or dress down for a poolside party, labels like Camilla, Zimmerman and Coco Ribbon cater to women of all shapes and sizes. With customers coming from all over the world, some of their Muslim clientele have also ordered hijabs to match their kaftans.
