Arabic Calligraphy: Art of the written word

It’s more than 80 years now since Turkey abandoned the Arabic alphabet for the Latin version, one of the reforms of the founder of modern Turkey, Ataturk. After that change calligraphy, the writing of the Quran in Arabic, fell out of favour and the schools where it was taught attracted few pupils.

GhalamDAR: Persian calligraffiti sensation

GhalamDAR - 'the writer' in Farsi - is an emerging artist, working primarily in graffiti since 2006. As a youngster, he wanted to add colour to his gray colored hometown of Tehran and to break the habit and expectancy of watching the same walls he passes by every day by practicing and experiencing with a variety of graffiti styles.
